DJay’s Soul Food: Reviews & Ratings
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! I’ve never been to this part of town but it’s located conveniently off 820! My order was ready when I arrived & everything was warm! I could tell that everything was homemade when I bit into it which earns extra points from me! The macaroni & cheese was perfectly seasoned, the yams were just the right amount of sweet, the dressing had a mix of moisture & dry spots (which I love) & the chicken was fried to perfection! The cornbread was a nice add that I didn’t know I’d be receiving & it was also delicious! I’m excited to try more from this restaurant on my next visit!
Ordered lunch for pick-up through Google. Ordering was easy and food was ready promptly. Location is off a busy road and has shared parking with other businesses, making it a little tight. Lots of loitering persons in the parking lot also. Atmosphere is cozy, family-owned/local-business decor. Food was delicious; generous portions with bold flavors. The only thing I had better hopes for was the customer service. No one greeted when I came in, I stood looking around at the desserts, decor for a while, making eye contact with multiple people (who I later found to be employees), no one offered assistance. I found a cart with Togo bags, one of them with my name on it so I figured it was a grab-and-good togo station, so I grabbed my bag and was immediately reprimanded by multiple employees. They requested I take and upload a photo to Door Dash to prove pick-up, but I was very confused because I didn't order through the DoorDash app. They reluctantly let me take my food after showing them how I ordered. Never a smile, never a thank you, never a "how can I help you?". I would probably order again, because the food is really good, but I didn't like the lack of customer service.
First, as soon as you walk into DJay's it really feels like Family!!! You are greeted by everyone with a genuine appreciation of your being there. Not only the staff members greet you, but patrons do as well, and from my experience, that's rare. We met Diane, the owner, an amazing woman. This was my first time there and I had smothered pork chops with rice, Cabbage, Black Peas, Cucumber Salad, Cornbread, Lemonade, and for dessert, I had Peach Cobbler. This was my first time here, but it most definitely will NOT be my last!!! Be aware, once you're done eating here, you're probably going to want to take a nap. Seriously, great people, food, atmosphere, and overall experience.
Good food, only thing is the cornbread was cold hard and dry. Everything else was perfect. DJays please do something about the cornbread cause if its not hot and soft, then might as well give out rolls. Had to fix my own drink, but the lemonade was . Overall I would eat there again.
Just go everything was good The fried pork chop was tender, the yams were sweet, the mac and cheese extra cheesy, the catfish was crispy everything was delicious. The lines are long but the wait time isn't and with all the movement they make sure your order is correct the first time. The building inside is a little toasty but not unbearable. **not pictured peach cobbler, strawberry cheesecake, 7-up pound cake, and lemonade.
Cheerful service and phenomenal food at unbeatable prices, this place is amazing. The proprietress is from Georgia and brought the taste and hospitality of the Deep South with her, offering unlimited complimentary koolaid and lemonade (some of the best I’ve had) as well as generous portions of food! Additionally, our order was ready to eat in 5 minutes flat. 5/5, I will definitely be returning.
Haven't found anyone that can make cornbread and meatloaf pretty similar to my Mama's. Most of the time they are bricks of meat no veggies seasoning etc but boy it was good. A little heavy on the sauce on top but doable. I feel bad bc they were swamped with door dash orders and hope they are able to find a better system for all of that. Was told wait ten minutes and waited about 45-50 mins. Had to go back in for a salad but everything else was great. Yams were sweeter than expected but Ill definitely be back for the meatloaf Mac and cheese and boy that coca cola cake was fire. Gonna have to try the banana pudding next. Oh and those bells can scare someone to death
